San Pedro del Pinatar is located at the northern end of Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon, the Mar Menor. As early as the 19th century, the town became a recreational hub for locals. The wealthy built summer residences along this stretch of coastline, drawn by the health-promoting and healing properties of the saltwater and mud baths of the Mar Menor – a reputation that still holds true today.
Affordable Living in a Spanish Coastal Village by the Salt Lagoons
The salt lagoons, sand dunes, and beaches of La Llana make up the oldest of the regional parks in Murcia. Birdwatchers can enjoy spotting over a hundred species of birds here – including flamingos. In addition to exploring the park’s rich flora and fauna, you’ll find several seaside restaurants serving the best seafood delicacies. Two of our favorites are Mar de Sal and Venezuela.
San Pedro del Pinatar is renowned for its fishing traditions. Not only do fishing boats bring in fresh catches daily, but the town is also home to numerous seafood and fish-processing companies.
The local municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar is economically strong, which benefits both residents and visitors. The area boasts many green spaces and exceptionally well-maintained public parks.
The housing market here has seen strong growth in recent years. Most new developments consist of detached villas with private pools, but you’ll also find newly built apartments in the marina or charming townhouses near the salt lagoons. Property prices remain significantly lower than in many other coastal areas in the region – offering excellent value for money.
If you enjoy peaceful surroundings, the ability to hop on your bike or go for a run before breakfast, take a swim in your own pool or the Mediterranean Sea, and still be close to authentic Spanish town life all year round – then San Pedro del Pinatar is the perfect choice for you.
